Putting It All Together How Plant Parts Help The Plant Meet Its Basic Needs

A Plant flower leaves stem roots Ask: Which parts of the plant that we have talked about are not shown in this picture? (Fruit and seeds) roots

Roots How do roots help plants meet their basic needs? Roots help to hold the plant in soil, rocks, or wherever the plant is growing. Roots take in water and nutrients from the soil. Roots can store water and nutrients.

Stem How do stems help plants meet their basic needs? Stems grow up from the roots and help a plant reach the air and light. The stem transports water and nutrients from the roots to the leaves and flowers. The stem supports the leaves and flowers.

Leaves How do leaves help plants meet their basic needs? Leaves make food for the plant using the air, water, and sunlight. Different environments have different amounts of sunlight and water available for leaves to make food for the plant.

Flower How do flowers help plants meet their basic needs? Flowers attract insects such as bees, butterflies, and bats. These animals pollinate the flowers so the plant can reproduce. The flower makes the seeds.

Fruit How does the fruit help plants meet their basic needs? The fruit of the plant stores the seeds. Sometimes, the fruit is eaten by animals and the seeds are deposited back to the ground in their waste.

Seeds How do seeds help plants meet their basic needs? Seeds help the plant reproduce.

How Plant Parts Help The Plant Meet Its Basic Needs root stem leaves flower fruit seeds attracts insects makes seeds stores seeds makes food from water, sunlight, and air moves water from the roots to the leaves gets water and nutrients for the plant helps the plant reproduce
