How to diagram a pulley system!

Anchor point The anchor point should be a solid black box fixed to a surface.

Dot Draw a large dot to show where the end of the rope is connected.

Rope Use a nice black line to represent the ropes.

Pulley Use a larger circle with a dot in the middle to represent the pulley. You can use a sticker to represent your pulleys

Load Use the same symbol we used for load with levers. Draw a box with an “L” in it. L

Effort Use the same symbol we used for effort with levers. Draw a circle with an “E” in it. L E

Direction Use a line with an arrow to show the direction of the effort and where the rope goes. L E

Labels Make sure you label each type of pulley in the system L E Single-movable pulley

L E Single-movable Single Pulley Systems L E Single-fixed

L E Double Pulley Systems L E Single-fixed / single-movable
