Binder Distributors Task Team Feedback

Progress since May Resolution #7 –To review the process of binder distributor certification as fit for purpose & investigate scope of a system for self regulation Met twice since last RPF –Hosted Australian study tour on seals –Representatives from all Provincial DoT’s and some Municipalities –TMH 2 sub committee

Calibration committee Barry Dumas PAWC Karl Arnold FSPA Theuns Lewis Gautrans Mias Wiese SANRAL Jacques Myburgh Tosas Devah Naidu Colas Owen Single Spray Pave Trevor Frost Strocam

Update on previous recommendations Feedback on implementation: –12 month calibration certificate validity period –Reduce minimum lot size to 1,500 litres for assessing spray rates –Update Sabita Manual 8 on safe handling of binders to incorporate Austroads experience –Modify ‘bakkie’ test method to incorporate tolerance limits for adjacent ‘bakkies’

Tolerance for adjacent ‘bakkies’

Way forward Publishing of recommendations: –‘Bakkie’ test method on CSIR website –Drafting interim guideline (TG 3) to incorporate recommendations until COLTO reactivated Develop computer programme to correlate fix pit transverse distribution with ‘Bakkie’ test Develop on-site carpet test for high profile projects Develop a new frame work for Distributor Calibration

Customer’s Requirements Category 1: Major projects Process control & Quality Assessment Category 2: Minor projects No Quality Assessment High quality product Standard quality product
