 Audit standard: – All patients should have BMI calculated within 24 hours of admission to hospital (NICE CG 32).  Study aims: – Establish compliance with NICE guidelines requiring early identification of obese patients. – Determine role of obesity as risk factor for major post-operative complications. Methods  3 teams each auditing 2-week periods in Oct–Nov  Inclusion criteria:  Adult patients undergoing GI or HPB surgery with an overnight stay in hospital.  Exclusion criteria:  Day case surgery and minor anorectal procedures.  Transplants.  Hernia surgery without bowel resection.
