Lotan's Way – Making the Dream a Reality Work Plan National Center of Desert Challenges for Youth at Risk, The Lieutenant Lotan Slevin Memorial Project
Goals of Lotan's Way: To create, advance and implement therapeutic desert workshops for youth at risk To build a permanent home in the Arava to serve as a national center of desert challenges for youth at risk in Israel To honor the memory of Lieutenant Lotan Slevin by activities and support for the rehabilitation of youth in distress To train guides and leaders for field activities with youth at risk To serve as a base for research and the propagation of professional and practical knowledge for the treatment of youth at risk To serve as a base for the evaluation of youth at risk Lotan's Way, registration no , is a non-profit organization established in 2009 by the Slevin family and friends in the Arava to honor the memory of Lotan Slevin, who was killed in battle in the Second Lebanon War. It operates with the support and sponsorship of the ELEM organization for youth in distress in Israel.

Therapeutic intervention in field conditions – therapeutic goals: Developing attention to and interest in others Developing mutual dependence between participants Reinforcing self-control Developing a sense of responsibility toward self and others Improving self-image Spiritual strengthening and empowerment Learning the value of cooperation with others
Summary of Activities : Pilot Field Activities: 15 groups, approximately 200 young men and women, participated in 50 days of trips in the desert Models of field work Survival Hike in extreme conditions – 1group IDF (Israel Defense Force) Model: one-on-one connections with soldiers in an Army Unit – 5 groups Desert Treks: instilling "on the ground" skills to empower participants, develop leadership and responsibility, and build ties to the country – 9 groups Training and Enrichment: The Desert Challenge Conference took place at Moshav Hazeva on , with the participation of some180 professionals from the wilderness therapy and other therapeutic fields. Round Table: We founded a professional forum for steering and advancing wilderness therapy for at-risk youth, with the participation of: Elem, the Ministry of Education, Metzila, Etgarim, the Israeli Scouts Movement, Aharai!, Nirim, Adam Bishetah, Amutat Enav.
Summary of the Association's Activities Field Activities: 30 groups, approximately 540 young men and women, participated in 85 days of trips in the desert Models of field work Survival Hike in extreme conditions – 4 groups IDF (Israel Defense Force) Model: one-on-one connections with soldiers in an Army Unit – 8 groups Desert Treks: instilling "on the ground" skills to empower participants, develop leadership and responsibility, and build ties to the country – 18 groups Training and Enrichment: The second Desert Challenge Conference took place at Moshav Hazeva on , with the participation of some 110 professionals from wilderness therapy and other therapeutic fields. Round Table: The forum for steering and advancing wilderness therapy for at-risk youth met four times. Progress in Establishing the Base Camp Facility at Givat Hazeva: We are in the process of receiving the land from the Israel Land Administration, at the same time as we are developing operative work plans and designing activities to raise funds.
