Allusion from Fahrenheit 451 On this slide, type the allusion that you and your partner have been assigned. Example: Our allusion was the reference of trench mouth by Captain Beatty on p116.

What does your allusion mean? On this slide, tell the literal meaning of the allusion. (If it is a person, who are they? If it is an object, what is it? If it is a quote, where is the quote from?) Example: Trench mouth is an infectious disease producing mouth ulcers in the mucus membranes of the mouth and throat.

What does it mean in the quote? On this slide, talk about why this allusion was used. Example: During this scene in the story, Beatty is giving Montag a recount of the dream he had before coming to work. In the dream, Beatty and Montag are arguing using quotes from different books. Beatty asks Montag if he has trench mouth to imply that Montag’s mouth is filled with quotes that he shouldn’t be using.

What does this allusion add to the story? On this slide, talk about how this allusion adds to the story. Example: Bradbury chose to allude to the infectious disease known as trench mouth to give the reader the impression that Montag’s mouth was filled with words/quotes that were infectious to his state of mind.

Based on your research, what do you think an allusion is? On this slide, use what you have learned from this activity to define allusion.
