Great War A slideshow about Trench Warfare

Why Trench warfare Trenches provided the basics of war. They could be sleeping quarters, battlefields, and graveyards. A soldier living there could be infected by many diseases though. Trenches were one of the main reasons the weapon of gas was put to use. They used o to suffocate the soldiers in the enemy’s trench so there was no resistance.

Pros and cons Pros: Protection against stationary guns and foot soldiers Easily fortified Holes dug on sides for small dugouts, used to sleep Cons: Lice, rats and other such things were common Life was so bad many committed suicide Artillery was very effective Shellshock developed quickly

Historical Importance Trenches made gas an effective weapon. Life was bad and harsh and many feet had to be amputated because of the trench foot aliment. Trenches were the barracks, the battleground, and graveyard; they could be all three.
