Existing By-Law Prior to Annual Meeting –TMMA Chair appoints Nominating Committee –Nominating Committee prepares slate of proposed officers At Annual Meeting –Chair presents slate –After entertaining additional nominations, vote is taken 2

CONCERNS Timely start to process Executive Committee sign-off Notice to membership of –Appointment of Nominating Committee –Selection of slate More opportunity for participation Adequate time to mount independent campaign 3

Key Changes Nominating Committee –Appointed by Executive Committee –At least 60 days prior to Annual Meeting –Composition unchanged (three TMMA members not officers, at least one a member of Executive Committee) –Notifies membership of its appointment within 7 days –Invites interest in candidacy or nomination of others 4

Key Changes Preparation of slate –Nominating Committee has month or two to prepare slate –Criteria for selection Skills Experience Demonstrated commitment –Slate may include, but not limited to, volunteers and nominees 5

Key Changes Publication of slate –Nominating Committee publishes slate to TMMA list As soon as practicable, but Not later than one day after annual town election –Publishes substitute, if necessary, as soon as practicable –Alternative candidate will have at least several days to mount a campaign and line up support 6

Key Changes Election at Annual Meeting –Chair presents slate prepared by Nominating Committee –Entertains additional nominations from floor –Any candidate may make brief statement (2 minutes) –Question of election put to a vote –Separate vote conducted for any contested office 7

Conclusion Changes should improve the nomination and election process for TMMA officers Will bring the process into conformity with the provisions adopted in 2005 for the nomination and election of precinct officers Provide more opportunity for participation TMMA Executive Committee has voted unanimously to recommend these changes 8
