Bystanders

Did the Germans know what was happening? Primo Levi responds “How is it possible that the extermination of millions of human beings could have been carried out in the heart of Europe without anyone’s knowledge?”

Bystanders In Hitler’s Germany a particular code was widespread: those who knew did not talk; those who did not know did not ask questions; those who did ask questions received no answers.

Bystanders Is it possible to live in a twilight between knowing and not knowing. Is it possible to refuse full realization of facts because one feels unable to face the implications of these facts?

Bystanders Bystanders are people who witness but are not directly affected by the actions of the perpetrators. They help to shape society by their reaction.

Bystanders Fear not your enemies, for they can only kill you. Fear not your friends, for they can only betray you. Fear only the indifferent, who permit the killers and betrayers to walk safely on the earth.
