“The Inner is not the Outer” Woe to me because of my injury! My wound is incurable. Jeremiah 10: 19 NIV

Jeremiah foreshadowed Jesus Delivered judgment on sinful man Enemies of Jewish State Prophesied destruction of Temple “Weeping Prophets” Persecuted by religious leaders Taken to Egypt Falsely accused, beaten, arrested Preached New Covenant Condemned hypocrisy

“The Inner is not the Outer”

“So you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you. You shall call to them, but they will not answer you”. Jeremiah 7:27 Jeremiah 7:27

“The Inner is not the Outer” Summary sentence: Through His prophet Jeremiah, God calls Israel to look at their hearts and come back to Him or there will be judgment.

“The Inner is not the Outer” Central Idea: “The inner is not the outer” Aim: We would return to the Lord with all our heart.

“The Inner is not the Outer” Outline: I. Jeremiah’s Warnings II. Jeremiah’s Anguish III. Jeremiah’s Declaration

“The Inner is not the Outer” I. Jeremiah’s Warnings

“The Inner is not the Outer” Break up your unplowed ground and do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, circumcise your heart you men of Judah and people of Jerusalem. Jeremiah 4:3-4

“The Inner is not the Outer” Do not pray for this people, or lift up a cry or prayer for them, and do not intercede with Me, for I will not hear you.” “Do not pray for this people, or lift up a cry or prayer for them, and do not intercede with Me, for I will not hear you.” Jeremiah 7:16

“The Inner is not the Outer” “The LORD will bring you and your king whom you set over you to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known. And there you shall serve other gods of wood and stone. And you shall become a horror, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples where the LORD will lead you away” (Duet. 23:36-37). (Duet. 23:36-37).

This is what the Lord said to me: “Go and buy a linen belt and put it around your waist, but do not let it touch water.” So I bought a belt, as the Lord directed, and Jeremiah 13:1-2

put it around my waist. … “Take the belt you bought and are wearing around your waist, and go now to Perath and hide it there in a crevice of rocks.” Jeremiah 13:3-4

So I went and hid it at Perath, as the Lord told me. Many days later the LORD said to me, “Go now to Perath and get the belt I told you to hid there.” Jeremiah 13:5-6

So I went to Perath and dug up the belt and took it from the place where I had hidden it, but now it was ruined and completely useless. Jeremiah 13:7

“This is what the LORD says: ‘In the same way I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem. “This is what the LORD says: ‘In the same way I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem. Jeremiah 13:9

These wicked people, who refuse to listen to my words, who follow the stubbornness of their hearts and go after other gods to serve and worship them, will be like this belt— completely useless! These wicked people, who refuse to listen to my words, who follow the stubbornness of their hearts and go after other gods to serve and worship them, will be like this belt— completely useless! Jeremiah 13:10

For as a belt is bound around the waist, so I bound all the people of Israel and all the people of Judah to me,’ declares the LORD, ‘to be my people for my renown and praise and honor. But they have not listened.’ Jeremiah 13:11 ESV

“The Inner is not the Outer” II. Jeremiah’s Anguish

“The Inner is not the Outer” “Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!” (Jeremiah 9:1).

“The Inner is not the Outer” III. Jeremiah’s Declaration

So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. Jer. 18:4

But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.

He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the LORD. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel. Jeremiah 18:3-6

“The Inner is not the Outer” “Always Jan” Roxanne Henke
