What are Green Schools? Schools that teach about sustainability Schools that operate on sustainable principles

Why is it advantageous to be a Green School? Cost Sustainable education Less litter and a better school environment Citizenship Academic results and other school benefits Curriculum links

How can YOUR school go green? THIS HAS TO BE PART OF THE SCHOOL ETHOS For this to work – the students MUST be in charge Committee needed Each form needs a form representative Regular meetings (with minutes) Needs some money to lift off

In your committee …. Divide up your committee into different teams Give them each an area to be responsible for List of questions needed They come up with possible solutions and list of things to do They distribute the decisions and work within their houses

Environmental Review/ Audit Where are we now? Great Barr looked at recycling, energy use, transport, purchasing policy, litter, the outdoor environment and water use At Bideford College this is our starting point – we did a waste audit for our recycling year

Monitoring progress Minutes set by committee include implementation tasks and deadlines They also make a list for other members of the school to contribute

How do we make all parts of the school green? To make it part of the school ethos it must be EVERYWHERE Science Geography PSHE Discussion topics for languages ICT research topics Music - junk bands Drama productions Art projects Textiles projects History of litter/ archaeology!
