The Slave and the Lion

Long-long ago slaves were treated very cruelly.

They were even forced to fight each other or wild animals.

One day a slave was put in a large stadium where he was to fight a fierce hungry lion. The slave was very scared.

The door of the cage opened and the hungry lion roared and came out. Suddenly he went in front of the slave and bowed down.

Everybody was amazed and the slave was set free.

The king of the city asked the slave why the lion had bowed to him. “The lion and I had once met in the jungle,” he said.

“I had taken out a thorn from his foot then. I could have killed him but I felt sorry for him and let him free. Today the lion has let me free.”

The king learnt that he must follow Ahinsa. He set all the slaves free and never hurt any animal again.
