3. The People Who Lived Before Us In New York
The Iroquois made the longhouse with wood and mud.
They practiced oral tradition.
They were the first storytellers.
Oral tradition means to tell stories over and over again and to tell them by word of mouth.

5. Introduction To My Story
The group of people that this story came from were the Iroquois people.
The name of my story is The Boy Who Lived With The Bear.
This is a good example of Iroquois oral tradition.

6. The Beginning Of The Story
In the beginning of the story, the boy’s parents died and he was all alone.
Therefore, he was forced to live with a person that he didn't like.

7. The Problem That The Character Faced
The boy’s problem was that the boy had to live with his very mean uncle that did not treat him well.

8. What Happened To My Characters In The Middle Of The Story
The boy and his uncle went to hunt in the woods.
The uncle saw this very small tunnel.
Then, the uncle said to the boy, “Boy! Crawl into that tunnel.”
Then, the uncle rolled a big rock in front of the tunnel so that the boy became stuck.

10. What Happened to the Boy at the End of the Story
Then, the boy heard tiny little voices.
It was animals that he heard.
The animals said that they would help the boy.
Then, the animals said that he would have to pick one of them to be his parents.

11. What Happened To The Boy In The End Of The Story
The boy picked the bear to be his parent.
Then, the bear said, “Come home with me.”
The boy was scared, but when he met the mother bear’s two little bears he was so happy.
Then a few minutes later, the boy heard footsteps.
The boy looked outside and it was his uncle.
The uncle said to the boy, “Come back and live with me.”
The boy said, “Yes”.
The uncle stopped hunting and the boy brought the animals to the uncle’s house to live with them.

13. What Are Some Values That This Story Teaches
Never hurt somebody that you love.
Always forgive somebody because they never meant to hurt you.
Never let somebody boss you around.
Always do what your parents teach you.
What goes around comes around.
Don’t harm others.

14. My Iroquois Artifact
The artifact I replicated is called a water carrier.
The Iroquois used it to carry water.
It was made out of wood and rope.

15. The Iroquois Water Carrier
I learned that the Iroquois used this artifact because in the old days people used a carrier over and over again to carry water.
Now, you can buy water bottles and you won’t have to carry it in a water carrier like the Iroquois people did.
That’s the difference between now and then.

I got this information in the museum I went there on January 31, 2006 I found my artifact there. The web sight is
