While exploring potential relationships with Pascua Yaqui, Hualapai, Gila River, and Salt River. Held a successful Research Conference July 2013, Scottsdale, AZ  75 Participants from NAU, UACC and tribal partners Successful grant award:  Training Program was awarded R25: Bridging Arizona Native American Students to Bachelor Degrees, Award No: R25GM102788, 9/15/2012 The Partnership for Native American Cancer Prevention (NACP) is funded by NIH U54 Grant: CA from the Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities (CRCHD) of the National Cancer Institute and is jointly administered by Northern Arizona University & The University of Arizona Cancer Center NACP RESEARCH PROJECTS – PAST AND PRESENT 1.Gage (NAU) & Montfort (UACC) (2nd Year Full Project): “Molecular mechanism in thrombospondin-1 mediated antiangiogenesis” 2.Sanderson (NAU) & Brown (UACC) (3rd Year Pilot Project): “Cancer Risk Factors and Screening Behaviors of the Hopi Tribe” 3.Wilder (NAU) & Heimark (UACC) (2nd Year Pilot Project): “Role of Genetic Variation in the microRNA Stress Response to Arsenic Exposure” NACP ACTIVITIES 1.Outreach Activities: Trujillo (NAU) & Solomon (UACC) 2.Training Activities: Ingram (NAU) & Briehl (UACC) PROGRESS TOWARD ADMINISTRATIVE AIMS 1.Continued strengthening our Internal Advisory Committee (strong institutional commitment, formal review role, stronger review process for NACP Projects and Programs) and Program Steering Committee. 2.Continuous improvement in format and use of evaluation reports and data. 3.Annual report of progress to senior leadership at both universities and to Arizona Board of Regents. 4.Outreach Team has increased efforts assisting the Research Teams in building relationships with our Community Partners. 5.Training Team has focused recruitment and placement of Native American Students into our NACP Research Labs. 6.Continued focus on building partnerships with tribal nations; participation in Tohono O’odham comprehensive cancer control plan, collaboration with Hopi Tribe on grant-funded projects, participation in Navajo Nation HRRB Research Conference and sub-contract with NN Division of Health NACP Students and Mentors at IAC Meeting, Scottsdale, AZ NACP Faculty and Staff at IAC Meeting, Scottsdale, AZ
