Facts of Santiago  Santiago is the capital of Chile  It is the fifth largest city in South America  It was founded on February 12, 1541 by Spanish Conquistador Pedro de Valdivia  Chile won its independence from Spain on February 12, 1817 at the Battle of Chacabuco

Introductiono  The purpose of this trip is to better acquaint ourselves with the Chilean culture, the Spanish language, and the city of Santiago.  Santiago is a beautiful city with a unique culture and a great atmosphere. This would be the perfect destination for traveling abroad because its eclectic society will broaden our understanding of the Spanish language. Reasons for Visiting SantiagoWhy Should This be Sponsored

Travel Plans Way of Travel Budget  Departure from Phoenix Sunday, June 6, at 7:00 a.m. via American Airlines  Arrival in Santiago at 7:20 p.m.  Ride local transportation to El Aubrey Resort  Use taxis, buses, and trolleys  Excluding airfare, we will each be allotted 3,000 dollars  $500 will be designated for food  $500 will be designated for shopping  $1,500 will be designated for hotel fare  $500 will be designated for miscellaneous

Activities Funicular Skiing Museum  A cable car (funicular) takes passengers up Saint Christopher’s Hill to a breathtaking view of the city. Halfway up the hill, passengers may stop and visit the Santiago Zoo, full of exotic animals.  A day trip to Valle Nevado Ski Resort with great slopes for the whole family. This fun filled adventure allows you to breath in crisp mountain air and see local wildlife.  The National Museum of History holds regular tours which educate people on the history and culture of Chile and its inhabitants. The museum only tells of Chile’s history up to 1973 because of political issues.

Chile is known for its fresh seafood and delectable meals. Classic Chilean meals include: Ensalada Chilena, Pastel de Choclo, Cola de Mona, Chancho en Piedra and many more. Originally, Chilean cuisine consisted mainly of Spanish dishes brought over by the Conquistadors. Eventually the Spanish dishes evolved with Chilean ingredients. Now, Chile has its own unique foods. Chile’s large coastline accounts for its numerous seafood recipes. Cuisine
