Understanding and Recognizing Progressivism: Part III Sponsored by U.S. Constitution Studies Colorado Christian University Lakewood, CO April 3, 2010 Paul T. Prentice, Ph.D.

Part III: Examples They’re Everywhere!  Government: 83 members of the Progressive Caucus, U.S. House of Representatives; of 20 standing House committees, 11 are chaired by progressive members.  Education: 85% of college faculty self-identify as leftist. They train the teachers, the lawyers, the journalists, the judges, and the businessmen.  Big Business: General Electric (light bulbs, wind turbines); AMA and Pharma (health care); General Motors (school busing, green cars).  Media: News and entertainment.  General Population: 53% of Democrats view the term “Socialism” positively; 17% of Republicans.

Thomas Jefferson v. Progressives  “The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so that the second will not become the legalized version of the first.” – Thomas Jefferson  “Shared responsibility for shared prosperity.” – Hillary Clinton

Republicans and Democrats  “To hell with the Constitution when the people want coal.” – Teddy Roosevelt  “The idea of nationalizing banks is not comfortable, but … we’re going to have to do something …” – Lindsay Graham  “I don’t like obscene profits being made anywhere.” – John McCain

Republicans and Democrats  “The Constitution is just a goddamn piece of paper.” – GW Bush  “I have to agree with Justice Byer’s view of the Constitution that it is a living document and must be read in the context of an ever-changing world.” – Barak Obama

America’s high school students are being taught Progressive economics and Progressive politics  "The education of all children, from the moment that they can get along without a mother's care, shall be in state institutions at state expense." - Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto  "Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted." - Vladimir Lenin  "Education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed." - Josef Stalin  "It is the State which educates its citizens in civic virtue, gives them a consciousness of their mission, and welds them into unity." - Benito Mussolini

Separation of School and State  " 'Parent choice' proceeds from the belief that the purpose of education is to provide individual students with an education. In fact, educating the individual is but a means to the true end of education, which is to create a viable social order to which individuals contribute and by which they are sustained. 'Family choice' is, therefore, basically selfish and anti-social in that it focuses on the 'wants' of a single family rather than the 'needs' of society." -- Association of California School Administrators

Cloward-Piven Strategy  "The Weight of the Poor: A Strategy to End Poverty“; May 2, 1966 issue of The Nation.  Columbia University professors sought to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.  Spawned three organizations -- ACORN, Project Vote and Human SERVE – which are largely responsible for swamping the voter rolls with "dead wood“, invalid registrations of deceased, ineligible or non-existent people opening the door to unprecedented levels of voter fraud.
