WHERE IS THE GLORY? WE CAN TAKE OURSELVES SO SERIOUSLY WE CAN TAKE OURSELVES SO SERIOUSLY A LESSON FROM MOSES ! A LESSON FROM MOSES ! Numbers 20:1-13 Numbers 20:1-13

WHERE IS THE GLORY? In the first month of the year, the whole community of Israel arrived in the wilderness of Zin and camped at Kadesh. While they were there, Miriam died and was buried.2 There was no water for the people to drink at that place, so they rebelled against Moses and Aaron. 3 The people blamed Moses and said, “If only we had died in the Lord’s presence with our brothers!

WHERE IS THE GLORY? 4 Why have you brought the congregation of the Lord’s people into this wilderness to die, along with all our livestock? 5 Why did you make us leave Egypt and bring us here to this terrible place? This land has no grain, no figs, no grapes, no pomegranates, and no water to drink!”

WHERE IS THE GLORY? 6 Moses and Aaron turned away from the people and went to the entrance of the Tabernacle,[b] where they fell face down on the ground. Then the glorious presence of the Lord appeared to them, 7 and the Lord said to Moses, 8 “You and Aaron must take the staff and assemble the entire community. As the people watch, speak to the rock over there, and it will pour out its water.

WHERE IS THE GLORY? You will provide enough water from the rock to satisfy the whole community and their livestock.” 9 So Moses did as he was told. He took the staff from the place where it was kept before the Lord. 10 Then he and Aaron summoned the people to come and gather at the rock. “Listen, you rebels!” he shouted. “Must we bring you water from this rock?”

WHERE IS THE GLORY? 11 Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the staff, and water gushed out. So the entire community and their livestock drank their fill. 12 But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me enough to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!”

WHERE IS THE GLORY? WE CAN TAKE OURSELVES SO SERIOUSLY WE CAN TAKE OURSELVES SO SERIOUSLY A LESSON FROM MOSES ! A LESSON FROM MOSES ! Numbers 20:1-13 Numbers 20:1-13 THE WORLD TAKES ITSELF SERIOUSLY THE WORLD TAKES ITSELF SERIOUSLY ACTS 19:23-41 ACTS 19:23-41

WHERE IS THE GLORY? 23 About that time, serious trouble developed in Ephesus concerning the Way. 24 It began with Demetrius, a silversmith who had a large business manufacturing silver shrines of the Greek goddess Artemis. He kept many craftsmen busy. 25 He called them together, along with others employed in similar trades, and addressed them as follows:

WHERE IS THE GLORY? “Gentlemen, you know that our wealth comes from this business. 26 But as you have seen and heard, this man Paul has persuaded many people that handmade gods aren’t really gods at all. And he’s done this not only here in Ephesus but throughout the entire province! 27 Of course, I’m not just talking about the loss of public respect for our business.

WHERE IS THE GLORY? I’m also concerned that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will lose its influence and that Artemis—this magnificent goddess worshiped throughout the province of Asia and all around the world—will be robbed of her great prestige!”

WHERE IS THE GLORY? 28 At this their anger boiled, and they began shouting, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” 29 Soon the whole city was filled with confusion. Everyone rushed to the amphitheater, dragging along Gaius and Aristarchus, who were Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia. 30 Paul wanted to go in, too, but the believers wouldn’t let him.

WHERE IS THE GLORY? 31 Some of the officials of the province, friends of Paul, also sent a message to him, begging him not to risk his life by entering the amphitheater. 32 Inside, the people were all shouting, some one thing and some another. Everything was in confusion. In fact, most of them didn’t even know why they were there.

WHERE IS THE GLORY? 33 The Jews in the crowd pushed Alexander forward and told him to explain the situation. He motioned for silence and tried to speak. 34 But when the crowd realized he was a Jew, they started shouting again and kept it up for about two hours: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians! Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

WHERE IS THE GLORY? 35 At last the mayor was able to quiet them down enough to speak. “Citizens of Ephesus,” he said. “Everyone knows that Ephesus is the official guardian of the temple of the great Artemis, whose image fell down to us from heaven. 36 Since this is an undeniable fact, you should stay calm and not do anything rash.

WHERE IS THE GLORY? 37 You have brought these men here, but they have stolen nothing from the temple and have not spoken against our goddess. 38 “If Demetrius and the craftsmen have a case against them, the courts are in session and the officials can hear the case at once. Let them make formal charges. 39 And if there are complaints about other matters, they can be settled in a legal assembly.

WHERE IS THE GLORY? 40 I am afraid we are in danger of being charged with rioting by the Roman government, since there is no cause for all this commotion. And if Rome demands an explanation, we won’t know what to say.” 41 Then he dismissed them, and they dispersed.

WE ARE TO TAKE JESUS SERIOUSLY WE ARE TO TAKE JESUS SERIOUSLY “It is the Holy Spirit's job to convict, God's job to judge and my job to love.” ― Billy Graham 1 Corinthians 16:14 Do everything in love. Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.

WHERE IS THE GLORY? Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.

WHERE IS THE GLORY? Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God,

WHERE IS THE GLORY? did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. being made in human likeness.

WHERE IS THE GLORY? 8 And being found in appearance as a man, 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! even death on a cross!

WHERE IS THE GLORY?
