Year 8 Revision Activity

TITLE: Year 8 Exam Revision Objectives: To develop your exam technique and revision skills to achieve your target level in science for your end of year exam. Identify your areas for development and act on these to achieve your target level. KEY WORDS: Outcomes: Produce a revision pack for yourselves on the areas below in preparation for your year 8 exam next week. This can be in the form of coloured cards, games, notes, PowerPoint slides, mind maps….. (levels 4-7) Using the slide for your chosen topic/s produce a resource to present to the class in the second half of the lesson to help the class revise your area.

Pregnancy Topic B A C D E

How long are women pregnant for? What is function of the amniotic fluid? How does a baby get out of the uterus? What is the function of the placenta? What is the umbilical cord used for?

Food Chains Topic What is a producer? What is a consumer? What is a herbivore? What is a carnivore? What is an omnivore?

Draw a food chain for grass, rabbit and a fox? Underline the producer Circle the primary consumer Draw a box around the top predator Which animal is a herbivore? Which animal is a carnivore? Draw a pyramid of numbers for your food chain. Food Chains Topic

Cells Topic What is the function of the nucleus? What is the function of the chloroplasts? How is genetic information passed from a parent to its child? What is a ciliated cell? Where would you find one?

Specialised Cells Topic

Particles Topic Draw a particle diagram for: A) solid B) liquid C) gas What happens to water when you change from solid to liquid? What happens to water when you change from liquid to gas? What happens to water when you change from gas to liquid? What happens to water when you change from liquid to solid?

Chemical Reactions Topic What is the test for oxygen? What is the test for hydrogen? What is the test for carbon dioxide? What is produced when metals react with acids? What is produced when metal carbonates react with acids?

Atoms and Elements Topic Draw a particle diagram for a compound. What is a mixture? Draw a particle diagram for an element. How are a mixture and compound different? What compound would you make if you burnt some iron in air? How many atoms are there in CO 2 What 2 elements are in this compound?

Light Topic What happens when light hits a mirror? Does the angle stay the same or is it different? What does refraction mean?

Sound Topic Draw a wave with a loud sound Draw a sound wave with a high frequency Draw a sound with a high pitch Draw a wave with a big amplitiude How do our ears hear sound, what happens to our ear drum? Can we hear in space, why, why not?

Energy Topic Name the 8 forms of energy. Describe the energy transfer in a pogo stick. Describe the energy transfer in a TV.

Acids and Alkalis Topic What is an indicator? What pH are acids? What pH are alkalis? What colour do acids turn in litmus paper? What colour do alkalis turn in litmus paper? Why is universal indicator better than litmus paper? What does neutralisation mean? What colour and number is a neutral solution?

Solar System Topic What is the order of the planets? Which is the largest planet? Which planet has most gravity? What is a comet? What is an asteroid?

Rocks Topic What is a sedimentary rock? What is an igneous rock? What is a metamorphic rock? Name 3 examples of each type of rock.

Electrical Circuits Topic What is the symbol for a bulb, motor, switch, battery, ammeter, voltmeter What is a series circuit? What is a parallel circuit? What is the current in a circuit? What is the voltage in a circuit? What do we use to measure the current in a circuit? What do we use to measure the voltage in a circuit?

Magnets What is magnetic? What do all magnets have? What is an electromagnet? How could we make an electromagnet stronger?
