Presentation transcript:

The Great Exhibition was built and designed in 1851 by Joseph Paxton; an architect. It was built in Hyde park, but was moved in 1854 to Penge Common [which no longer exists]. When it (known as the Crystal Palace) got burnt down at Penge Common it was never built again. Crystal Palace, the football team, uses the park as its home ground this is where they founded their name.

Why? The Great Exhibition was built so other countries could show off their biggest designs, architects, fabrics and lots of other gobsmacking creations that represent that their home nation is better than any other. When? The Great Exhibition officially opened on 1 st May 1851 by Queen Victoria and her Husband, Prince Albert in all their glory opened the grand building. However work started nine months before. Who? Everyone from all over the British Empire gathered here to see the pride of the nations being revealed by the glorious Queen and her loving husband. Where? Originally it was built in Hyde park and it covered a whopping capacity of 17 acres! Sadly, it was moved a few years later to Penge Common. What? The Great Exhibition was a large building made of iron and glass. Used to showcase every part of the British Empire.

The money that the owners of the Exhibition raised went towards the construction of The Royal College Of Music, The Royal College Of Art and The Imperial Science Museum which are still very successful now.

Inside there were many, many exhibits for many, many countries. Including China’s exhibit, America’s exhibit, Canada’s exhibit and many more. On each industrial country’s exhibit they showcased their latest creations to take the world by storm.
