Travel Essay

Attention grabber examples Imagine the opportunity to plan the trip of the century. If you were given the opportunity to organize a fabulous trip around the world, then what would you choose? Where in the world would you choose to go if given unlimited funds? What would a trip of a lifetime include for you?

Thesis The eighth grade trip of a lifetime would include a party at______________, a visit to the historical site of ________________, and a fabulous fun day at______________. Don’t copy mine but include all the underlined words including your blanks in your version.

Introduction Example Imagine the opportunity to plan the trip of the century. What options would you consider? This is an unbelievable opportunity for a group of eighth graders at one middle school. Careful consideration is given to every detail. The eighth grade trip of a lifetime would include a party at______________, a visit to the historical site of ________________, and a fabulous fun day at______________.

Introduction Example Where in the world would you choose to go if given unlimited funds? Would you choose another city, another country or even another continent? A special group of teenagers have been given this opportunity during their final year of middle school. With many options considered a dream trip is finally decided. The eighth grade trip of a lifetime would include a party at______________, a visit to the historical site of ________________, and a fabulous fun day at______________.

Introduction Example If you were given the opportunity to organize a fabulous trip around the world, then what would you choose? Many people would be overwhelmed at this opportunity but few people would pass up the chance. This prospect became reality for a group of middle school students from a small town in Oklahoma. However, their dreams for their trip were not small. The eighth grade trip of a lifetime would include a party at______________, a visit to the historical site of ________________, and a fabulous fun day at______________.

Body paragraphs Begin with a topic sentence that states the claim word from the Roman numeral on the outline Contain at least four specific evidence examples (follow your outline) Written in 3rd person—no I, me, my, mine, we, us, our, ours Have at least six sentences Have a closing sentence Use several transition words (see list in folder) Use documentation for research paragraphs

The next slide shows my answers to my research pages which will be weaved into a paragraph according to my outline. The colors show which source I used. Notice at the bottom of the next slide I have set up my sources. If you do not know how to do this then simply number your sources 1-4 for the two pages. Use numbers in parenthesis instead of names until you get some help.

Conclusion Uses a transition word or phrase to begin Uses a simpler version of the thesis Summarizes three main points from the essay Ends with a call to action or opinion type statement about the trip
