A low-down on what exactly is the concept ‘DQ’

English author and international advisor on education, Sir Ken Robinson says Divergent Thinking is not just creativity, but much more. He says, it rather resembles Edward De Bono’s concept of Lateral Thinking.

Convergent Thinking: The appraisal of an array of ideas and alternatives, which result in a single, correct and logical solution to a problem: the basis for the Intelligence Quotient (IQ) test. Divergent Thinking: The generation of diverse and original ideas with fluency and speed, yielding multiple solutions that could all be correct, viable and appropriate.

Pack more user- friendly computing features into it Use wearable glass monitor Linear Thinker Divergent Thinker

A wearable monitor built into a frame of a pair of glasses at $ 1,500. Innovation of the year 2012.

Torrance first developed (Creative Quotient (CQ) tests to quantify creativity when he found that key to survival for survival of prisoner-of-wars was “creativity”. In such tests, an examiner might ask you to see a picture and list things that it could represent. The intention being to test one’s fluency, originality and elaboration of ideas.

Creative Quotient indicates the extent to which a creative idea could be generated which has value (as in to its practicality and feasibility). Creative Idea Value Creative Quotient

However, Divergent Quotient includes all off-beat revolutionary ideas. These ideas may not necessarily be big ideas, but could also be small innovations in process or products but which has the potential to shake existing industry standards. Creative Idea Novelity Higher Divergent Quotient

His or her inputs have fully come from repository of existing ideas that are of value, but not revolutionary. Exhibits higher DQ to come up with a revolutionary or path-breaking idea.  High ‘CQ’(Creative Quotient) manager comes up with 100 ideas on paper in one hour. All of them of value, but mostly includes the ideas already floating in the market. For instance, ‘cut costs’, process re-engineering, ‘hike distributor commissions’ and so on.  High ‘DQ’ manager comes with half of the ideas generated by high ‘CQ’ manager. But one of the ideas is truly revolutionary. He or she suggests getting full-fledged into 3-D printing business, which is the future of printing.
