Avancemos 2 More Irregular Preterites – venir & querer Unidad 4 Lección 2

Querer & Venir You have already learned many verbs that have an irregular stem and endings when conjugated into the preterite. The verbs querer and venir are two more irregular preterites.

Let’s review: what are the stems of the following verbs when conjugated into the preterite? Verb Estar: Poder: Poner: Saber: Tener: Querer: Venir: Preterite Stem Estuv Pud Pus Sup Tuv Quis Vin

Irregular Preterite Endings – NO ACCENTS! eisteo imos ieron

Venir Examples: ¿Ustedes vinieron de la biblioteca? Did you come from the library? Yo vine del templo. I came from the temple. Nosotros vinimos de la ciudad. We came from the city.

Querer – to want *****PLEASE NOTE: The verb querer has a different meaning when used in the preterite. It means tried. Quisimos ver las ruinas pero no pudimos. We tried to see the ruins but we couldn’t.
