Presentation transcript:

Sponge Bob – Controls and Variables When the IV is not changed but has other factors of the experiment. Variable: Any portion of the experiment that can have more than one value. IV: What you are testing/changing. DV: What you are measuring.

Krusty Krab Breath Mints: Group B is the control because they did NOT receive the secret ingredient. IV = secret ingredient DV = amount of bad breath The breath mint with the secret ingredient appears to reduce the amount of breath odor more than half the time, but it is not 100% effective. Placebo effect

Squidward’s Symphony IV = instrument DV = number of jellyfish Conclusion: Clarinet = 37, Flute = 22, Guitar = 37, No music = 10 Squidward’s hypothesis is not proven. Are the results reliable? Not really . . .

Super Bubbles Claim: Bubbles will be twice as big. IV = type of bubble solution DV = size of the bubble Averages Super bubble = 15.1 cm Regular soap = 11.5 cum Conclusion: The bubbles are bigger, but not twice as big. Reliable? Consider having the each person blow 5 bubbles with each solution.

Sponge Bob Clean Pants The problem is Sponge Bob’s pants are not clean. IV = laundry soap DV = How clean the pants are Clean-O laundry soap does not appear to be effective in cleaning his pants.
