Fats, Oils and Grease

Fats, Oils and Grease are found in the food you eat:

What happens to your dishes after you are done eating? You wash them!

When the fats, oils and grease are washed down the drain, they build up inside your pipes and eventually cause a clog!

The sewer pipes from house are connected to the City’s sewer pipes, where your wastewater will travel to the wastewater treatment plant.

The City’s sewer system can back up just like the pipes in your home

If the City’s sewer system overflows, we call this a Sanitary Sewer Overflow

Expensive clean up Property damage Beach closures Local waterways contaminated Contaminated drinking water sources Health risks Fish kills Stomach illness Swimming restrictions Fishing restrictions Algal blooms Shellfish contamination A Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) is when raw sewage is discharged into the environment. Many problems are associated with SSOs: Fines

Sanitary Sewer Overflows can happen in your neighborhood.

1.Let your used oil cool to room temperature 2.Pour oil into a container with a lid 3.Drop off the container at a used cooking oil recycling location or discard in the trash NEVER pour oil or grease down the drain!
