Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in February 7, 1867, near the village of Pepin in the Big Woods of Wisconsin. Her Family was one of the first English settlers in America. Her parents were called Charles Ingalls Wilder and Caroline Ingalls Wilder. She was the second of five children; her siblings were Mary, who went blind from scarlet fever, Caroline, Charles, who died at nine months old and Grace

Laura traveled to Wisconsin, Kansas, Minnesota, and South Dakota. The Ingalls family left Wisconsin for Walnut Grove, Minnesota, where they lived at first in a dugout house which is a house under ground. Two years later, the family moved to Iowa, where Charles became part-owner of a hotel. In 1879, the Ingalls family moved again, this time to homestead in the Dakota Territory. The family finally settled in what would become De Smet, South Dakota, which remained her parent’s home until they died.

When she wrote books she wrote them about her childhood. Some of them have won medal awards. The first one she wrote was little house in the big woods. The last one she wrote was the first four years.

In August 1885 Laura Ingalls & Almazo Ingalls married and they were farmers in Missouri. A couple of years later they had a daughter called Rose. She also became a writer. Her husband Almazo Wilder died in October A few years later Laura Ingalls died in February She is buried in Missouri with her husband.

When Laura started writing her classic Little House book series in 1932, she had no idea of creating fame for herself or the places where she had lived. She wrote simply to preserve tales of a lost era in American history. When Laura completed her eight- volume series in 1943, she had achieved a lasting and substantial literary picture of pioneer life as she had experienced it in Wisconsin, Kansas, Minnesota, and South Dakota.
