SIR ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER 40 Years in Show Business

A composer and producer Andrew Lloyd Webber is the composer of The Likes of Us, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, By Jeeves, Evita, Variations and Tell Me On A Sunday later combined as Song & Dance, Cats, Starlight Express, The Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard, Whistle Down the Wind, The Beautiful Game and The Woman in White. A filmmaker In 2004 he produced a film version of The Phantom of the Opera directed by Joel Schumacher and in 2010 he premiered Love Never Dies his sequel to The Phantom of the Opera which was directed by the award-winning director Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell. A successful stage producer As well as many of his own shows his producer credits include Daisy Pulls It Off, Lend Me A Tenor, Shirley Valentine, La Bete, the ground-breaking Bollywood musical Bombay Dreams, his smash productions of The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium. In 2015, he is at work on a new jukebox musical based upon The School of Rock and a revival of Cats at the London Palladium.

A pop culture icon In 2006 he oversaw a new production of Evita in London, a unique version of The Phantom of the Opera in Las Vegas and pioneered television casting with the hit BBC series How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? that searched for a Maria in The Sound of Music. The series won an international Emmy. He repeated his success with Any Dream Will Do which cast the title role of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for the BBC. I’ll Do Anything was created to cast the role of Nancy in the musical Oliver ! A new Dorothy for the Wizard of Oz and Jesus for a new production of Jesus Christ Superstar were cast the same way. Numerous awards His awards include seven Tonys, three Grammys including Best Contemporary Classical Composition for Requiem, seven Oliviers, a Golden Globe, an Oscar, two International Emmys, the Praemium Imperiale, the Richard Rodgers award for Excellence in Musical Theatre and the Kennedy Center Honor. He currently owns seven London theatres including the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the London Palladium. He was knighted in 1992 and created an honorary life peer in 1997.

Lloyd Webber studied at Magdalen College, Oxford, and at the Royal College of Music. While a student, he began collaborating with Timothy Rice who wrote the lyrics to Lloyd Webber’s music. Lloyd Webber was knighted in 1992, and in 1997 he was created a life peer. His brother Julian Lloyd Webber is a world-renowned cellist.
