Abstract: This paper describes about the core professional skills and competencies for the library and Information Science (LIS) Professionals; which can support them as a good manager and leader to perform the resource sharing (RS) tasks. This paper also describes about the continued education in different areas to support the LIS professionals as a very effective and dynamic to accept the challenges about the resource sharing. We have also discussed about the communication, technical, leading, project and resource sharing skill. What is scenario of RS in Pakistan. Resource Sharing Scenario in Pakistan The index compiled by Z. Khurshid (1974), Ten Years Work in Librarianship in Pakistan: , mentioned seven works on cooperation. Two significant doctoral studies have addressed this issue: Khan (1991) concluded that formal cooperation is almost non existent in Pakistan. Samdani and Mahmood’s (1999) An Index of 50 Years' Work in Pakistan: ( ) listed seven works under the heading resource sharing and five under cooperation for the Pakistani scenario. According to Haider, S. J. (2003). “awareness of resource sharing in Pakistan in its present day form is a phenomenon of the 1980s.” He identified the causes for the failure of certain resource sharing projects as “absence of proper planning, lack of competent human resources, non-availability of standards, non-existence of bibliographic apparatus and absence of leadership” (p. 55). Resource Sharing Scenario in Pakistan Contd…… In October 2004, the governor of the Punjab, who is also chancellor of all universities in the Punjab, constituted a Chancellor’s Consultative Group (CCG) for finding ways and means to share resources of universities, including resources of their libraries. Another significant activity in this regard was a five-day “National Workshop on Resource Sharing and Networking of Libraries and Documentation Centers” from April 11-15, 2005, in Islamabad with the collaboration of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. The Directorate of Scientific Information, National Agriculture and Research Council, Islamabad, organized this workshop, and it was attended by over 90 head librarians and documentalists from all over Pakistan. Proposed SLNP : Meeting Recommendations 1. An overview of the resources at the National Library of Physical Sciences (NLPS), SID, PINSTECH. 2. International Nuclear Library Network (INLN) of IAEA in which 35 libraries in different countries are sharing their resources among themselves. 3. Voluntarily offer the services of SID to all the members 4. The aims and objectives of the Network must be clearly defined 5. The resources in each member library should be identified that can be shared. 6.
