True Discipleship Session 2 – Understanding the Solutions

We MUST share the good news in word And in DEED!

Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence (1Jn 3:18-19)

He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. (Mar 16:15-16)

Make an equal commitment to all 3 areas of Discipleship - Relevant Evangelism Meaningful Outreach Impactful Missions

Relevant Evangelism 1.Make sure you are doing “teach to obey.” 2.Create an atmosphere of acceptance. 3.Value creative and relational ideas.

While Jesus was having dinner at Levi's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the "sinners" and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: "Why does he eat with tax collectors and "sinners'?" On hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." (Mar 2:15-17)

Meaningful Outreach 1.Have a kingdom focus, not a conversion focus

This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: "Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." (Jer 29:4-7)

Meaningful Outreach 1.Have a kingdom focus, not a conversion focus 2.Understand Jesus’ heart for outreach

"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' (Mat 25:34-40)

Meaningful Outreach 1.Have a kingdom focus, not a conversion focus 2.Understand Jesus’ heart for outreach 3.Commit to serving needs and sharing Christ

4 views on outreach: 1.Minister to the community needs but offer no explicit invitation to know Christ. 2.Evangelize the lost but apart from serving practical needs. 3.Serve the community needs and share the good news of Christ. 4.Little or no outreach or evangelism is present.

Impactful Missions 1.Make a decision to be a church of abundance, not a church of poverty

So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to visit you in advance and finish the arrangements for the generous gift you had promised. Then it will be ready as a generous gift, not as one grudgingly given. Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: "He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever." (2Co 9:5-9)

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. (2Co 9:10-13)

Impactful Missions 1.Make a decision to be a church of abundance, not a church of poverty 2.Give in multiple ways

4 areas of investing in Missions: 1.Spiritual resources 2.People resources 3.Practical resources 4.Financial resources
