Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave? 1 Thessalonians 3 and 4:1-12 Message 3 on our series in 1 Thessalonians Sunday, November 23, 2008 Speaker: David Brereton

Rosemount Bible Church November 23, 2008

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Verses 1-5 Paul Sends a Partner Because he couldn’t stand “not knowing how they were” To Strengthen and Encourage To remind them that trials are appointments, not accidents

Verses 6-9 Paul Praises Them For their growing Faith For their Love For standing firm in the Lord For the Joy they have brought him

Verses Paul Prays for them Faith would grow That he could visit them again (didn’t happen) Love would grow towards God, towards fellow believers, towards all men Hope of Christ’s return would motivate them to live holy lives

Chap 4 Verses 1-12 Paul Preaches Walk in Holiness Walk in Harmony Walk in Honesty and Humility

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose strong faith and deep love, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof that our God is still saving everywhere. O say, does that Hope of Christ’s coming yet wave O'er the land of the free who by grace have been saved?
