Appearanc e

Supporting Evidence On page 1, Max said “I never had a brain until Freak came along and let me borrow his for a while, and that’s the truth, the whole truth.” Max is very tall and big, but he not that smart. At school he has to take L.D. classes. Max says, “My brain is vacant.” People judge him by his looks, but he is always caring for Kevin. Max isn’t brave enough to tell is dad how he feels about him killing his mother. Though Max isn’t smart he cares for others and wouldn’t hurt anyone like his dad did. This is my first reason why appearances don’t always match their personality. Does anyone’s appearance actually match their personality?

Supporting Evidence Does anyone’s appearance actually match their personality? On page 65, Max said, “Now she’s standing in the door way, this scrawny, yellow-haired woman with small, hard eyes, and blurry red lips.” “She’s wearing this ratty old bathrobe and she’s smoking this cigarette and squinting at us and making a face.” This is Loretta. She seems very rough, but she has a good heart. The first thing she does is she brings a pizza box to Kenny and Max on Christmas Eve. The next thing she does surprised me a lot by her appearance. The thing she does is when Kenny took Max away and they are hiding Loretta tries to untie the rope off of Max when Kenny is gone (finishing business with Iggy).

Supporting Evidence Does anyone’s appearance actually match their personality? On page 9, Freak said, “Then die, earthling, die!” Freak is also known as Kevin. Kevin is very small, but that doesn’t stop him from being brave. Kevin has a leg disorder, but he still is very smart. He made a dictionary for Max. Kevin is smaller than Max, but Kevin tells Max what to do.

Theme My theme is you can’t judge people by their appearance. This means just because someone is small and has something wrong with them doesn’t mean they aren’t brave.
