2. Food and Drink In A Raisin in the Sun, the food and drink symbolized something. I believe that it symbolized a solution to fix problems. Also, to keep people from talking. This happened many times throughout the play. A symbol is a thing that represents or stands for something else.

3. In the play “Man say to his woman: I got me a dream. His woman say: Eat your eggs. Man say: I got to change my life, I’m chocking to death baby. And his woman say--- your eggs is getting cold”(Hansberry 33). I think this quote shows how Walter’s wife was trying to shut him up when he was talking about changing his life. She kept on offering the eggs that she already gave him and kept on telling him to eat them just to shut him up. She was also trying to solve the solution by telling him to eat because she knows that what Walter was talking about wasn’t going to actually happen and he was talking non sense. Another quote that I think symbolizes the food/ drink is when the family kept on offering Mr.Lindner several drinks. Some coffee?”(Hansberry 114, 115). This quote also shows how the family where trying to get Mr.Lindner to stop talking several times by offering him a beverage which shows how they where trying to get him to shut up and felt like that would solve the solution to prevent him from talking.

4. In A Raisin in the Sun the check symbolizes dreams. It symbolized Mama, Beneathea, and Walter’s dream. Mama’s dream was to have a big house. Walter’s was to open a liquor store and for him and his family to have a good life and be rich in the future. Beneatha’s dream was to go to college and become a doctor.

5. C HECK Q UOTES In A Raisin in the sun mama said “So now its life. Money is life once upon a time freedom used to be life now it’s money? I guess the world really do change” (Hansberry 148). This symbolizes the check because mama’s dream was to have freedom and to live a better life and to have a bigger house which happened. Another quote that symbolizes the check is “And we have decided to move into our house because my father- my father earned it for us. Brick by brick”(Hansberry 148). This quote symbolizes the check because Walter’s dream was for his family to live a better life and by them moving to this new house their life would be better. Also, mama’s dream was for Walter to be like his dad which he is now becoming like.

6. In a Raisin in the sun Mama’s plant symbolized hope. Every time Mama wanted hope she would go to her plant. Her plant would die like hope does but it would end up coming back to life. The same way someone keeps on trying and wont give up doing something because they have hope is the same way the plant symbolized hope. It also symbolizes progression. If you have hope in something your doing you will progress in what you are trying to do.

7. A quote from the play that symbolizes the plant is “ Fixing my plant so it won’t get hurt none on the way…” (Hansberry 120). This quote shows how the plant symbolizes progression because Mama believes and has hope that her plant isn’t going to get hurt in any type of way because she is going to take care of it. Another quote that symbolizes the plant is “ The door opens and she comes back in, grabs her plant and goes out for the last time” (Hansberry 151). This quote symbolizes hope because Mama felt that she didn’t need hope anymore because she is now moving to her new house but, then she realizes you will always need hope and that her plant was there to help progress in life. She grabbed because she doesn’t know what’s going to happen at her new house and that she will always need hope.
