Presentation transcript:

2 Corinthians 8:1-12 – “We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. Accordingly, we urged Titus that as he had started, so he

should complete among you this act of grace. But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also. I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. And in this matter I give my judgment: this benefits you, who a year ago started not only

to do this work but also to desire to do it. So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have. For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.”

“Titus Touch” He commends them in Many graces – v.7 Grace of Giving – v.7 “I speak not by commandment” – v.8 “Prove the sincerity of your love” – v.8 II Corinthians 9:7 – “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

I.Giving With An Understanding Heart Matthew 28:18-20 – “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world,”

I.Giving With An Understanding Heart There are four basic giving principles: 1.Giving is a Testimony to God’s ownership. 2.Giving is Holy to the Lord – Leviticus 27:32 – “The tenth is holy to the Lord” 3.Giving Honors the Lord – Proverbs 3:9 – “Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase:”

I.Giving With An Understanding Heart There are four basic giving principles: 3.Giving Honors the Lord – Proverbs 3:9 – “Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase:” 4.Faithful giving yields faithful Rewards – II Corinthians 9:6 – “But I say, he which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully”

I.Giving With An Understanding Heart II.Giving With A Willing Heart Exodus 35:4,5 – “And Moses spake unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, this is the thing which the Lord commanded, saying, take ye from among you an offering unto the Lord: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the Lord; gold, and silver, and brass”

I.Giving With An Understanding Heart II.Giving With A Willing Heart Exodus 35:21 – “And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the Lord’s offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service”

I.Giving With An Understanding Heart II.Giving With A Willing Heart Our giving reveals the condition of the heart: o You willingly entrusted your Soul to God o You willingly entrusted your Family to God o Why not entrust your Finances to God

I.Giving With An Understanding Heart II.Giving With A Willing Heart III.Giving With A Loving Heart Mark 12:41-44 – “And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto…

I.Giving With An Understanding Heart II.Giving With A Willing Heart III.Giving With A Loving Heart Mark 12:41-44 – “…them, verily I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living”

I.Giving With An Understanding Heart II.Giving With A Willing Heart III.Giving With A Loving Heart Love should Always be the motivation behind our giving
