S. A. C. card On your 3 X 5 index card – Your name Your Learning Community # 1 well-written sentence about our classes from weeks 1 and 2 Synthesis: the combining of often diverse conceptions into a coherent whole – so far, how has the subject connected into a meaningful subject? Analysis: resolving complex expressions into simpler or more basic ones – how can you explain one previously unfamiliar term in your own context? Critique: consider the merits and demerits of and judge accordingly -- how does the previous week’s subjects fit into your context? (1/23/08)

Connecting the Archetypes I am most concerned about Growth Fixing Problems But nothing grows forever LIMITS TO GROWTH ….so if we’re all up against the same limit…. TRAGEDY OF THE COMMONS I form a partnership for growth but feel betrayed ACCIDENTAL ADVERSARIES But my fix comes back to haunt me FIXES THAT BACKFIRE & my partner is now my adversary …because I’m not getting at the real underlying cause SHIFTING THE BURDEN

Current oath of enlistment and oath for commissioned officers The wordings of the are as follows: "I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).

FFA Creed I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words but of deeds - achievements won by the present and past generations of agriculturists; in the promise of better days through better ways, even as the better things we now enjoy have come to us from the struggles of former years. I believe that to live and work on a good farm, or to be engaged in other agricultural pursuits, is pleasant as well as challenging; for I know the joys and discomforts of agricultural life and hold an inborn fondness for those associations which, even in hours of discouragement, I cannot deny. I believe in leadership from ourselves and respect from others. I believe in my own ability to work efficiently and think clearly, with such knowledge and skill as I can secure, and in the ability of progressive agriculturists to serve our own and the public interest in producing and marketing the product of our toil. I believe in less dependence on begging and more power in bargaining; in the life abundant and enough honest wealth to help make it so--for others as well as myself; in less need for charity and more of it when needed; in being happy myself and playing square with those whose happiness depends upon me. I believe that American agriculture can and will hold true to the best traditions of our national life and that I can exert an influence in my home and community which will stand solid for my part in that inspiring task. The creed was written by E. M. Tiffany, and adopted at the 3rd National Convention of the FFA. It was revised at the 38th Convention and the 63rd Convention.

I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout. Learning Organizations “A New Vocabulary” Fundamental Principles: Learning Organizations

Organization Start with a Traditional Add componentsTo make a Learning Organization

Organization Guiding Ideas Innovations in Infrastructure Theory- Methods-Tools Learning

Organization Guiding Ideas Learning

Guiding Ideas = what the organization stands for and what people want to create Not “mom & apple pie” – ideas must have PHILOSOPHICAL DEPTH Primacy of the Whole: organizations are interrelated not just separate parts (example human body has “parts”)

Organization Guiding Ideas Innovations in Infrastructure Learning

Innovations of Infrastructure Infrastructure = how org. makes resources available to people Innovation = changes in the infrastructure to support org. learning Examples = Teams, Quality Circles, Quality Mgmt.: success only when infrastructure is supported by Guiding Ideas

Organization Guiding Ideas Innovations in Infrastructure Theory- Methods-Tools Learning

Theory-Methods-Tools Theory = fundamental beliefs; bring into public space to help understand (5 Disciplines) Methods = procedures to translate theory (see next slide……) Tools = “things” needed to complete the methods (computers….)

Methods: Reinventing Relationships Intimacy – willingness to pass on honest information, knowing each other well enough to anticipate activity Shared Authority – everyone is equally responsible for results Promoting New Relationship Model – SHARE :Relevant info, rewards REWARD:Honesty, partnering

Organization has all 3 Guiding Ideas Innovations in Infrastructure Theory- Methods-Tools Learning
