Managing Conflicts n Make clear up front potential conflicts – financial and intellectual n Delve down in to possible conflicts n Discuss with AHRQ/Task Order Officers n Understand that a conflict on one project doesn’t mean the investigators will be conflicted on all projects n Discuss other potential roles within projects/EPC n Understand incentives for/against participating

Building a Team n Use of fellows, housestaff, junior investigators n Building investigator relationships beyond one project n Having high-level staff to ensure positive EPC experience n Development of methodological abilities in general internists n Working with Division Chiefs to identify investigators n Establishing potential of comparative effectiveness research/systematic reviews as area of research focus n Availability of sustained funding (short term/ long term)
