Mystery Disease By: Reece, Payne, Dax, and Will

Summary A mystery disease has come to Barrow county after the fair they held. The fair included games, fair food, and contact with animals. The health inspectors (us) have received information to try to figure out what is the disease, what caused it, how it spread, and how to cure the people who are victims of the disease.

What is the disease? We were suddenly contacted that there were several reports of diarrhea and stomach cramps of children* that attended the fair just after the fair ended. We had Dr. Billman (Mr. Hilburn) give us sheets of information on what child did what, ate what, and had what symptoms. We studied the symptoms and researched what they all might mean. After we did that we concluded that the disease was infact, E.coli. * A few elderly citizens were also sick.

What caused the disease ? Here in session 2, we are trying to figure out what caused the disease. Dr. Billman has given us some information on who did what, ate what, and did what at the fair. We were to go through the papers and figure out what caused it. Once we were done, we concluded that it was the goats.

How did it spread ? We were to determine here in session 3 how the disease spread. Dr. Billman has given us a layout of the fair. We were to draw a way that the fair could have looked so the E. coli couldn’t have spread so rapidly. We were also to find out how it would have spread we concluded that the animals were to close to the food and people not washing hands after petting the animals and using restroom.

Things are getting worse… Susie Thompson has recently passed on. She died of HUS, a type of kidney failure. We analyzed the symptoms and warning sings of HUS. Then we had to make decisions that our patients depend on. We need to take Daryl Harper to a hospital room. We need to also get all the citizens of Barrow County tested, and treated if needed.

Things are getting even worse… Anthony Green’s kidneys have started failing. We’ve concluded he needs a dialysis and a kidney transplant. Daryl Harper is also in danger, and should be admitted into Barrow County Hospital to be treated.

Reassure Parents We (the Health Department) are going to have the school nurse give everyone a check up, and if needed, treat.

P.S. Wash your hands!!!
