doc.: IEEE Submission Abstract Why system evaluation? Limitation of computer simulation Requirement of system evaluation Proposal of wireless emulation Performance of emulation system Conclusion May 2014 Hiroshi Mano (KDTI/University of Yamanashi)Slide 2

doc.: IEEE Submission Why do we need system evaluation? The system, it is complicate. –Wireless Link –Transport behavior –Higher layer setup –Higher layer mobility –etc,. The system performance not only depends on wireless link quality. Every single building block inside system affects the total quality. Therefore we have to evaluate the system performance by End-to-End. May 2014 Hiroshi Mano (KDTI/University of Yamanashi)Slide 3

doc.: IEEE Submission Which kind of combination of the interferences should be evaluated? In case of shared spectrum band, there are complex interference over space, time and frequency domain. –Infinite combination of interference occurs in shared spectrum band. Of course the interference in the same system should be evaluated. –Wireless LAN Vs Wireless LAN Moore over the interference between different system should be evaluated too. –Wireless LAN Vs DSRC, ZigBee,Bluetooth,LTE-u etc,. May 2014 Hiroshi Mano (KDTI/University of Yamanashi)Slide 4 f P Interference between different systems over frequency domain. t P Frame interference over time domain Interference between different systems over space domain

doc.: IEEE Submission Today's system evaluation method and limitation. Computer simulation –It is popular by economy, scalability and repeatability. –It provide evaluation of wireless link with limited Interference condition. –The real time simulation is limited by computer power. Field test –It is the only way to evaluate the end-to-end performance with real time. –The repeatability of field test is not sufficient and not so economical. May 2014 Hiroshi Mano (KDTI/University of Yamanashi)Slide 5

doc.: IEEE Submission Limit of computer simulation Define the specification of every single desired signals and undesired signals. Calculate the Eb/No (SINR) Vs BER between the system. ( Creating BER (SINR) Table) Calculate the link budget of every single path including multi paths Look up the BER (SINR) Table by the calculated Eb/No (SINR). Evaluate packet (frame) error rate. The combination of interference should be specified first. It does not scale for huge combination of complex interference. May 2014 Hiroshi Mano (KDTI/University of Yamanashi)Slide 6 ~ Mod Demod AWGN or Interference Eb/No BER TxRx Link Budget Interference Multi-path Packet Level Simulator

doc.: IEEE Submission Requirement of system evaluation Complexity –Do not depend on particular radio specification. –Provide reconfigurable radio sources of frequency, modulation, power, antenna, sensitivity and etc,. –Provide evaluation of the end-to-end performance with related external system elements such as servers and controllers. Immediacy (Real time) –Evaluation should be performed in the real time Repeatability –Test scenario should be reusable Scalability –Supporting high dense environment of radio allocation.
