Business Studies “ Preparation for the world of work” BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Certificate in Business Mr Wright-Hanson

How the course is assessed? BTEC Business Studies is both coursework and exam based. Internal assessment –Learners complete projects and coursework assignments set by the teacher. Of the units, 75 per cent are internally assessed. External assessment - Learners are externally assessed using an onscreen test. Edexcel sets and marks the test. The assessment must be taken by the learner under examination conditions.  The assessment approach allows you to receive feedback on your course as you provide evidence towards the assessment and grading criteria  Coursework is regularly marked and students given feedback to improve their grade  The types of work you produce might include written assignments, case studies, role play and oral presentations, done either as group work or independently

Core Units Unit 1: Enterprise in the Business World Unit 2: Finance for Business Mandatory Units Unit 9: Principles of Marketing Optional Specialist Units Unit 4: Principles of Customer Service Unit 8: Recruitment, Selection and Employment Unit 10: Using Business Documentation Unit 6: Introducing Retail Business

Why should you do this course?  After school you will work for one type of business or another- it is beneficial to understand how businesses work.  It relates to your everyday life.  Studying business increases your chances of getting a job because it relates to all businesses  It is suitable for independent learners and students better at coursework than exams.  Students who want to go into business or a business-related area:  Business Studies prepares you for the following professions:  Accountant  Finance Director  Customer Assistant  IT Personnel  Banker  Sales Rep  Entrepreneur  General office worker  Business Manager

Where might the course lead? Sixth Form: A Level Business or Economics Edexcel BTEC Business Diploma Level 3 Business Studies combines well with any A Level subject and will add breadth to those following courses in science, languages or purely arts subjects. It also complements subjects such as Geography, Sociology and Psychology. University Many students who choose to study Business at KS5 go on to study a related degree at university, as Business Studies forms an excellent basis for many future careers such as banking, finance, law, ICT, marketing and human resource management.

 This course requires students producing significant amounts of written work to high standards.  Students choosing this subject must therefore have sound literacy skills which enable them express themselves clearly in their written work, making it understandable.
