Main Topics The meaning and importance of the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, reconciliation, anointing of the sick The meaning and importance of the Mass The meaning of the Eucharist in other Christian traditions Why Catholic Churches have certain features The meaning and importance of Christmas, Lent, Holy Week and Easter Worship and Celebration

The meaning and importance of the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, reconciliation, anointing of the sick Sacraments are important because they are ‘outward signs of an inner grace’. The Holy Spirit is present. They all deepen our faith. They allow us to publically express our faith. There are also several different aspects of each sacrament that are key to their meaning and importance.

The meaning and importance of the Mass The Mass is a re-enactment of the Last Supper and a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. It is important for Catholics because it is a chance for them to meet as a community in the presence of God, to give thanks to God, to remember the sacrifice of Jesus, to receive the Eucharist and to receive the grace of God to help them grow in faith.

The meaning of the Eucharist in other Christian traditions Christians understand the Eucharist in different ways and refer to it using different names. Eastern Orthodox Christians believe the bread and wine changes to the body and blood of Jesus by a holy mystery. Most Protestants believe the bread and wine do not change, but do believe that during the celebration of Holy Communion Jesus becomes spiritually present.

Why Catholic Churches have certain features A Catholic Church has many different features which show important Catholic beliefs such as transubstantiation, the new life brought by baptism, the importance of the Bible and the teachings of the Church.

The meaning and importance of Christmas, Lent, Holy Week and Easter Each of these seasons and celebrations in the Church’s liturgical calendar show key events in Jesus’ life which are then reflected in the life of the Church. They are all important because of what we learn from them about Jesus’ life as well as how to apply it in out own lives.
