The Celts originated from Central Europe.

The period of time in Britain just before the Roman period is known as the Iron Age. The name 'Iron Age' comes from the discovery of a new metal called iron. The Celts found out how to make iron tools and weapons. This gave them an advantage in battle. Celtic sword ---)

The Celts were pagan and worshiped lots of difference gods. The king of their gods was Daghda. Iron Age Celts had many gods and goddesses and the Celts worshipped their gods through giving them valuable objects or sacrificing animals and even people, to keep them happy. The Celts kept the heads of the people they killed, then they would worship the head.

Celtic warriors had an advantage in battle as they had iron weapons. They covered their bodies in tattoos. Even women could be warriors. Celtic warriors carried long, or oval shaped shields, spears, daggers and long slashing swords made of iron.

They ate many different things from nettles to leeks. Here is a list of what vegetables they ate; leeks, onions, turnips, parsnips, carrots, hazelnuts, walnuts, fennel, common sorrel, wild garlic, parsley, nettles, spinach, bread and also porridge. Here is a list of what meat they ate; wild boar, fox, beaver, bear, trout, mackerel, salmon, chicken, goat, sheep, pigs and eggs from hens and wild birds. Common sorrel ---)

The Celtic tribes lived in scattered villages. They lived in round houses with thatched roofs of straw or heather. The walls of their houses were made from local material. Houses were made from wattle (woven wood) and daub (straw and mud) as there was an ample supply of wood from the forests. The roof was made from straw with mud placed on top to keep the warmth in. The houses had no windows, the Celts would light a fire in the middle of the roundhouse for cooking and heating.
