Greeting and introduction v. 1-2 –Author Peter the apostle—Simon/Cephas, the fisher of men –Audience Aliens John 15:19 General Epistle –Located throughout modern day Turkey Who are chosen (past tense) John 6: 37-45; Duet 7:6; John 15:6; Romans 3:11, 5:8; 1 John 4:10 –According to God’s foreknowledge prognosis –Having been set aside through the work of the Holy Spirit –For obedience to faith (Jesus Christ) »Through the shed blood of Christ Jesus –Grace and Peace Eph. 2:14 Peter 1:1-12 Suffering for Jesus

Blessed is God for the salvation we received v –What is God’s motive? By mercy we were caused to be born again To a living hope—why? –Because it’s personified in Christ Jesus who was resurrected from the dead John 3:1-15 –What’s it good for? Inheritance (legacy by relationship-often wealth) –One that is imperishable—unlike fruit –One that is undefiled—unlike disease, crime or sin –One that doesn’t fade—like a couch or picture –Reserved (guarded and secure) in heaven »the inheritance is God Himself Col. 3:1-2

Protected inheritance –By God’s power which HE attaches to faith Inheritance that will be revealed –In it’s fullest in the last time (Christ’s return) –This knowledge about your salvation/inheritance makes one—rejoice Despite current and various trials –Your faith in God is being tested by fire—yes The testing result—PROOF of faith 1 Thess. 1:2-10 –And the perfect salvation that goes with it Your rejoicing brings praise and glory to Christ Jesus at His second coming (cause you’ll be there to do it again)

–This faith, how does it work? Having not seen HIM –You love HIM Even though you STILL haven’t seen HIM –You believe HIM Obtaining salvation of your soul—through faith! –What about this salvation? The prophets of old promised this grace –They searched carefully to know »Who? »When? »Because the Spirit of God was revealing this truth to them

–What truth? The suffering of Christ Jesus And now the glories that have followed through His resurrection –What did the prophet’s search reveal? They thought they were doing their own search— the Spirit revealed they were working for us! So that the gospel would be preached to you –Through the power of Holy Spirit »The Holy Spirit having been sent from heaven »To bring the gospel and salvation And that truth—even angels want to fully understand salvations greatness Rev. 5:7-12
