A PICTORIAL ACCOUNT OF THE FIRST THREE WEEKS OF THE FLOODING The Chinese say that a picture is worth a thousand words. And this is most true as one looks at the pictures of the devastation and misery wrought by the rains and floods on the East Coast of Demerara and the capital city, Georgetown, between January 15 and February 5, These pictures show the extent to which the flood waters in villages such as Lusignan, Better Hope and Dazzel Housing Scheme rose to unprecedented levels and these areas could only be navigated by boat. The flood waters were the greatest at the Dazzel Housing Scheme at the back of Paradise, East Coast of Demerara, and caused the dislocation of the residents. They also show the reaction of the Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Mr. Robert Corbin MP, as he visited the various communities on the East Coast and areas of the Capital city. These pictures also describe the network put in place by the Party to bring relief to the residents of the East Coast and Georgetown.
