 Country Name: Syria  Current Government Type: Republic under an authoritarian, military dominated regime  When Did the Protests Begin, and Who Began Them? March, The citizens started the protests  What Are the People Protesting? They are demanding greater freedom and the resignation of Bashar al-Assad  How Did the Government Respond to the Protests? They are currently trying to crush all apposing views  What has been the Result of the Protests? Neither side has prevailed in defeating the other

Bashar al-Assad took office after his father, the previous leader of Syria, died. He started implementing a Democracy, moving towards modern technology such as computers and IPhones. There are even a few Wi-Fi hotspots in Syria. However, nothing much else had changed. And now, many countries want al-Assad to resign, not just his own people. Bashar has refused to resign and political opponents are killed, tortured, and imprisoned regularly.
