II.htm Moses was in danger because he was the son of a Hebrew slave. Exodus 1:16 says that Pharaoh ruled, “Kill the boys. Let the girls live.”
Pharaoh’s daughter lifted the baby out of the water. That is how Moses got his name. It means, “I pulled him out of the water.” His sister watched. She offered to find a nurse. She took Moses to his birth mother. She raised him until he was three years old. Then he went to live with the Pharoah’s daughter.

He was leader of Hebrews who guided them out of Egypt. He wrote the first five books of the Bible called the Torah. The books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. He delivered the Ten Commandments to his people. Most people remember that he parted the Red Sea to let the Israelites escape Pharoah.
Moses got to see God. God came down on a cloud and Moses saw his back. Moses’ face glowed.

God told Moses to speak to the rock and it would give water. Moses was angry and he struck his wooden staff at the rock. God said that his sons could go into the Promised Land but not him. God let him see the land. Then Moses died. God buried him. He was 120 years old.
