Meadow Trail System Survey Results July 2014

Opinions About the Demonstration Trail

Comments About the Trail Favorable Huge improvement Old trail is much too narrow and overgrown Forest Service trail standards would suffice We need a clearly defined path & creek crossing Negative Overbuilt/too formal Meadow should stay in its natural state Too expensive to build and maintain

Conditions of the Existing Trail in the Meadow

Improvements Needed for Existing Trail Create stream crossing(s) Add boards to walk on in muddy areas More trail definition on the west side Flatten or even out the trail in areas where it is rutted Improve erosion control Re-route trail off of private property Portions should be ADA compliant

Meadow Trail Access

Other Suggested Access Points KCA Recreation Center/General Store Near KMPUD buildings Near the Playground Near both access roads for KMA Junction of Highway 88 & KMD

What About Parking? Develop trail access points where current public parking exists or could be installed Keep parking out of KMA & EM roadways

Meadow Use: Bicycles/Horses? Bicycles 58% of those responding prefer that bicycles not be allowed 38% favor bicycles in the meadow Horses 56% of those responding prefer that horses not be allowed 24% favor horses on the meadow trails

Respondent Demographics

Next Steps Based on the survey responses the next steps involve: Clarify KMPUD’s role: Catalyst to benefit community & stakeholders (Vail, KCA, KRD) Meet with the stakeholders (Vail, KCA & KRD) to review the concept & financing Develop plan to address property line issues Communicate results to the community Examine access points Identify trail points for ADA compliance Construct a trail according to Forest Service standards on either end of the demonstration trail on KMPUD property Assess maintenance issues on the demonstration trail after the winter Explore options for stream crossing(s) Continue discussion with the community
