Tsunami kills 45 in four States Dec 26 Malaysia was not spared. At least 45 people were killed with hundreds injured and missing in the aftermath of a tsunami triggered by the most powerful earthquake since 1964.

IN THE BEGINNING: The waves starting to crest due to the shallow waters.

FIRST WAVE: The waves crashing onto the retaining wall of the E&O hotel in Penang.

SIGNS OF DANGER: Breaking waves churning up the silt along the shoreline

RELENTLESS: Waves pounding the shores

STRUGGLING TO STAY AFLOAT: Two fishing boats caught in the torrent of waves
