The Lost Voice of Fatherhood Pastor Timothy Chan Chinese Grace Bible Church Sunday, June 17, 2012

Introduction What are we celebrating today? We are losing the voice of the father in our society and our families. The model of fatherhood is thinned out and many are raised without a biological father. The consequences of such a loss are catastrophic…

John 20:16-17 (NIV 1984) 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).

John 20:16-17 (NIV 1984) 17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

John 1:12 (NIV 1984) 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God —

Exodus 34:1-4 (NIV 1984) 1 The Lord said to Moses, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.

Exodus 34:1-4 (NIV 1984) 2 Be ready in the morning, and then come up on Mount Sinai. Present yourself to me there on top of the mountain.

Exodus 34:1-4 (NIV 1984) 3 No one is to come with you or be seen anywhere on the mountain; not even the flocks and herds may graze in front of the mountain.”

Exodus 34:1-4 (NIV 1984) 4 So Moses chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in the morning, as the Lord had commanded him; and he carried the two stone tablets in his hands.

Mark 1:9-11 (NIV 1984) 9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

Mark 1:9-11 (NIV 1984) 10 As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.

Mark 1:9-11 (NIV 1984) 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

Romans 8:15 (NIV 1984) 15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

Galatians 4:6 (NIV 1984) 6 Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”

Luke 23:34 (NIV 1984) 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Luke 23:44-46 (NIV 1984) 44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.

Luke 23:44-46 (NIV 1984) 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.
