Telemetry is the wireless transmission and reception of measured quantities for the purpose of remotely monitoring environmental conditions or equipment parameters. The Head Impact Telemetry System monitors and records head impacts sustained during a football game. The helmet itself contains a five point sensor pad in the liner of the helmet which measures the severity of the hit.

Sideline Response System The Sideline Response System reads and filters the data that is taken from the Impact Telemetry system.

How It Works. The whole Riddell process works like this: “When a player is hit, a five point sensor located in the helmet liner, measures the impact. If the impact (or series of impacts ) falls outside of an acceptable range, the sensor issues a wireless alert, which is received on a monitor by the coach or staff on the sideline. Medical personnel can then examine the player and assess his condition, determining if it is safe to continue the game.” 5/riddell-unveils-new-wireless-helmet-tech
