Explain why some people have high blood pressure or high cholesterol. How might statins reduce the incidence of heart disease in the UK?

People may get high blood pressure because they smoke tobacco or drink lots of alcohol. Another way is because they eat lots of salt. Some people have it due to genetics. If you eat a lot of saturated fat, such as red meat, butter and cream, your liver turns it into cholesterol. It is taken to cells, in the blood, to make cell membranes stronger. Statins stop your liver from making cholesterol. Cholesterol in your blood can cause heart attacks.
