3 Version 1 | Internal Use© Ipsos MORI Methodology and Sample This report presents the findings of the first of four waves in 2014 of the IMA (Interim Management Association) Membership Audit. The study, now in its 9 th year, has been carried out from 2006 on a quarterly basis. IMA members participated in an online survey entering data for each assignment completed between 1 st January and 31 st March This report is based upon findings from the 17 participating members of the IMA. Fieldwork was carried out from May through to mid June 2014.

6 Version 1 | Internal Use© Ipsos MORI Number of completed assignments The first quarter of 2014, the 17 participating IMA members completed a total of 280 interim assignments. The average number of assignments completed per member has increased to 16 in Q from 13 in Q The average number of assignments in progress per member has also increased from Q – the average this quarter has increased to 63 from 58 in Q The overall number of new assignments started in this quarter has also increased to 390 from 339 in Q The highest number of new assignments started this quarter has gone up to 80 from 61 in Q The net difference between new assignments started (390) and completed (280) is +110 this quarter, up from +44 in Q As of 31 th March 2014, the 17 participating IMA members had a total of 1,074 assignments in progress. The highest number of interim managers on assignment on 31 th March 2014 from one member was 200. However, the average length of assignments has dropped this quarter from 153 in Q to 122 days in this first quarter (Q1 2014). The gender split has remained stable, with female executives accounting 32% of all the assignments and male executives accounting for 68% (Q female executives accounted for 33% and male executives 67%).

16 Version 1 | Internal Use© Ipsos MORI Public sector vs. private sector  This quarter we have seen the gap between the private sector and public sector narrow. The private sector accounted for 56% of all completed assignments in Q1 2014, down from 70% in Q The public sectors contribution to completed assignments has increased from 30% in Q to 44% in Q  The Financial Service sector continues to dominate, with 45% of all private sector assignments being from this sector.  The next most prominent sectors are Transport with a 9% share and Retail, also with 9% share this quarter.  This quarter Local Government remains dominant in the public sector with a 48% share. This is followed by the Education sector with 18% and Health sector with 14%.

20 Version 1 | Internal Use© Ipsos MORI Job function, reason for assignment  21% of requested assignment functions in this quarter were for Finance, followed by Special projects with 20%, which is down 5 percentage points from Q (25%).  The most common reason for an assignment remains Programme/Project Management with 49% of all interim executives hired for this purpose. However, this has dropped substantially from Q (from 61%).  The next most common reasons for assignments remains Gap Management (26%) which has gone up considerably from the 12% in Q4 2013

25 Version 1 | Internal Use© Ipsos MORI Enquiries An ‘enquiry’ is defined as any contact for an assignment which led to a meeting with a prospective client and putting a shortlist forward.  The average number of enquiries received by each member involved this quarter is 83. This has increased from the previous quarter where the average number was 65.  70% of enquiries came from the private sector this quarter and 30% from the public sector, very similar to ratio seen in the previous three quarters.
