DITIS AIMS Uses patient centric paradigm for continuous treatment of patient at home, and any visits to places of specialist treatment (e.g. radiotherapy) and back home.

The simultaneous physical presence of a healthcare team by the side of the patient, when the patient is at home, at all times of need, is almost impossible. DITIS’ Project Goals © 1999, University Of Cyprus DITIS supports the creation, management and co-ordination of virtual healthcare professional teams, for the continuous home-treatment of patient.

DITIS’ System Architecture(1) © 1999, University Of Cyprus  Web based database  Flexible Communication Infrastructure  Effective and robust Communication protocols  Telecooperation System  Adaptive intelligent interfaces

DITIS’ System Architecture(2) © 1999, University Of Cyprus  Web based database The design and development of such a system will be based on an open Healthcare Information Infrastructure, and web based database for storage and processing of information, including Electronic Medical Record (EMR) pertinent to cancer patients, in accordance with National and International standards (e.g. WHO ICD-10, ICD-O, HL7).

DITIS’ System Architecture(3) © 1999, University Of Cyprus  Flexible Communication Infrastructure The use of Mobile Agents, e.g. IBM’s Aglets, Concordia, Voyager, General Magic ODYSSEY or Java’s RMI, for the implementation of flexible communication infrastructure for support of mobile users. The mobile agents, may be extended to offer intelligence and co-operation.

DITIS’ System Architecture(3) © 1999, University Of Cyprus  Effective and robust Communication protocols Current and emerging protocols (such as the Wireless Access Protocol, WAP, and the activities of the W3C-Mobile Access) are investigated.

DITIS’ System Architecture(4) © 1999, University Of Cyprus  Telecooperation System For sharing of information, team communication, and coordination of team activities.

DITIS’ System Architecture(5) © 1999, University Of Cyprus  Adaptive intelligent interfaces For database access from a variety of access units, such as: Mobile Computing Units with GSM Internet connectivity. Fixed units with Internet Access supporting Tele- cooperation.

DITIS’ System Architecture(6) © 1999, University Of Cyprus Overview

DITIS’ Infrastructure © 1999, University Of Cyprus

Expected Benefits © 1999, University Of Cyprus  Improvement of the quality of life that chronic and severe patients can experience.  Flexible Management and accessing to Healthcare Records.  Reduction of the length of stay of the patient in hospital. (saving in the cost).  Capability to consult within a team of experts.
